ST. LOUIS, MO (May 22, 2024) – SWMW Law, one of the top plaintiffs’ firms in the country focused on representing victims of mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases, is proud to announce the expansion of its Civil Litigation Practice with the addition of seasoned litigator Patrick S. O’Brien as Partner.

“Patrick’s breadth of experience and successful advocacy for clients are assets for our office and a strong complement to our deep bench of top-tier trial lawyers,” said Member Ben Schmickle. “He has built an impressive career and reputation representing the rights of injured railroad workers, and his unrivaled commitment to his clients aligns perfectly with the values of our practice. We are excited to welcome him to our team.”

Based in the firm’s St. Louis office, O’Brien will focus his practice on complex civil litigation involving Federal Employer Liability Act (FELA) claims, as well as environmental exposure matters. He has dedicated his professional career to helping those who have been injured on the road or on the rail for more than 40 years. With his own national law practice, he has tried cases to verdict in 16 states and secured numerous, substantial verdicts against various railroads. He’s been recognized by Best Lawyers as a Best Personal Injury Attorney from 2000-2023 and as a Best Lawyer for Railroad Law from 2013-2023.

“By combining forces with Patrick and thereby merging his established practice with SWMW Law, our firm continues to expand and bolster its efforts to help injured parties on a national scale,” Schmickle said. “This not only speaks to our continued growth as a firm, but our commitment to securing justice for as many people as possible.”

SWMW Law has seen significant growth over the past few years, adding several partners, attorneys, and support staff to its team. O’Brien’s addition brings the firm’s total attorney count to 31, who serve victims of mesothelioma, asbestos lung cancer, drugs and medical devices, environmental and toxic exposure, consumer fraud, and catastrophic injury across the country.
