“As lawyers, we put great stock in the power of words, but Dr. Martin Luther King reminds us that those words must be supported by action,” said Member Ben Schmickle. “Our firm is deeply committed to amplifying the voices of those who often go unheard and serving the communities that are often subjected to inequality and injustice. Because People Matter.”
For their Martin Luther King Jr. Day service project, SWMW employees joined forces with The Mission Continues, a nonprofit that connects veterans with service projects in under-resourced communities. Together, they volunteered at the SIUE Charter High School in East St. Louis to install a community sharing closet, which will provide students with toiletries, cleaning supplies and other basic necessities.
Volunteers helped to organize all the items donated for the closet and assemble shelves and storage bins.
In addition to volunteering, the firm also made a financial donation to the project so organizers can purchase additional items for the closet to ensure it is fully stocked for students in need.
