SWMW Law, one of the top plaintiffs law firms in the country focused on representing victims of mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases, is proud to announce Associate Justin C. Strayhorn has been named president of the Mound City Bar Association.

“I am deeply honored to lead an organization with such a long and storied history of advancing justice, equity, and opportunity for underrepresented voices in our legal community,” said Strayhorn. “For more than a century, the Mound City Bar Association has been a beacon for Black lawyers and advocates, championing civil rights, promoting diversity in the legal profession, and ensuring access to justice. I am committed to upholding this legacy and building upon the foundation laid by generations before us to create meaningful change within our city and beyond.”

Established on Jan. 7, 1922, the Mound City Bar Association is the oldest bar association for Black legal professionals west of the Mississippi River. Its objectives are to advance the professional interests of its members; to improve the administration of justice; to uphold the honor of the legal profession; to promote the professional development of our members; and to provide service to the community, including pro-bono representation.

A member of the Mound City Bar Association since 2016, Strayhorn was previously appointed to the position of vice-president of the association and assumed the role of president after a change in leadership occurred. He will serve as president until Spring 2025.

Strayhorn joined SWMW Law in 2024 as an associate, focusing his practice on helping individuals and families affected by mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases. He graduated from Morehouse College with a B.A. in Political Science and received his J.D. from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.

Outside of his work with the firm, Strayhorn is an active member of his church, West Side Missionary Baptist Church, and of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He is also a member of the Centennial Plaza Housing Board of Directors, a group that leads the charitable arm of Centennial Plaza Baptist Church and provides housing and advocacy for low-income senior citizens.
