Camp Lejeune Water Contamination
Environmental Toxic Exposure
Camp Lejeune Water Contamination Attorney
Between August 1953 and December 1987, the drinking water at Camp Lejeune, a U.S. Marine Corps base in Jacksonville, North Carolina, was contaminated with toxic chemicals that can cause numerous serious health issues and cancers, as well as severe birth complications, miscarriages, and even death.
The Senate recently passed The Camp Lejeune Justice Act as part of a larger bill to protect military service members, veterans, and their families. Under this Act, those exposed to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune during the affected decades may be entitled to compensation from the U.S. Government.
What Caused the Water Contamination at Camp Lejeune?
Benzene, TCE and VC are all classified as carcinogenic, meaning they are cancer-causing, while PCE is likely to be carcinogenic. Exposure to any of these chemicals can cause an array of additional health effects.
From August 1953 to December 1987, it is estimated nearly 1 million civilian workers, military service members, and their families were potentially exposed to these toxic chemicals.
