Matt is one of the trial team leaders at SWMW Law. He works mainly on the pre-trial aspects of cases, with a focus on client depositions. He has conducted and defended hundreds of client and co-worker depositions for asbestos cases, which have delivered over $120,000,000 in settlements for our clients.
Matt’s twelve years of litigation experience began in the personal injury defense arena, before he shifted his focus to seeking compensation for plaintiffs harmed by asbestos exposure, pharmaceuticals and the negligence of others. Matt honed this expertise working as a trial team leader with his fellow SWMW partner Ben Schmickle, at one of the nation’s most successful asbestos litigation firms.
He graduated as Valedictorian from McLeansboro Township High School. He went on to Southeast Missouri State University, where he studied political science and played Division I basketball. After graduating with high honors, he obtained his Juris Doctorate with honors from the Southern Illinois University School of Law, where he graduated in the top 10% of his class.
Matt was born and raised in the Southern Illinois area, and is an active member of the St. Louis community. He is a founding member of the Forest Park Rotary Club, and enjoys playing basketball at the Missouri Athletic Club.
