Asbestos Trust Fund Companies: Active Trusts for Mesothelioma Victims

Four industrial smokestacks emitting thick black smoke against an orange sunset sky, with factory buildings silhouetted in the foreground.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, one of the most important steps in pursuing compensation is identifying which asbestos-containing products you were exposed to and whether the companies that made those products established asbestos trust funds.

More than 60 active asbestos trust funds currently exist, managed by four major claims processing facilities across the United States. Each trust was created when a former asbestos manufacturer or distributor declared bankruptcy and was required by the court to set aside money for people harmed by their products.

The directory below is organized by claims processor and verified against each processor’s published listings. If you recognize a company from your work history, or are unsure which products were at your job sites, our investigators can match your history to every qualifying trust, so no source of compensation is overlooked.

Some trusts pay considerably more per mesothelioma claim than others, depending on each trust’s scheduled value and its current payment percentage. The trusts below illustrate the highest approximate expedited-review payouts in our trust value dataset. Most claimants qualify for several trusts, so the total recovery combines payouts from every qualifying trust.

Approximate values compiled by SWMW Law from trust distribution procedures and published payment percentages (2024). Figures are illustrative of expedited-review payouts, vary by exposure and review track, and change over time as trusts adjust their payment percentages. Your attorney confirms the current figures at the time of filing.

The following trusts are actively accepting claims as of early 2026, organized by the facility that administers each one. Payment percentages reflect the most recent figures we have compiled (2024); they change periodically, so your attorney confirms the current percentage at filing. Asbestos was used in virtually every major industry, but certain sectors had especially heavy use. If you worked in any of the following, there is a strong likelihood that products from one or more of the companies above were present at your workplace.

Construction and Building Products. Armstrong, USG, National Gypsum, Celotex, Flintkote, and Congoleum made asbestos flooring, drywall, joint compound, ceiling tiles, and roofing. Construction workers, drywall installers, roofers, and demolition crews were routinely exposed.

Insulation Manufacturing. Johns-Manville, Owens Corning, Pittsburgh Corning, W.R. Grace, and Eagle-Picher produced insulation used in homes, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and ships. Insulators, pipefitters, and boilermakers were among the most heavily exposed.

Power Generation and Industrial Equipment. Babcock & Wilcox, Combustion Engineering, and ABB Lummus Global made boilers, turbines, and equipment containing asbestos insulation and gaskets. Power plant workers, maintenance crews, and industrial mechanics worked around these for decades.

Automotive. Federal-Mogul, Raytech (Raybestos-Manhattan), General Motors (Motors Liquidation), and Maremont produced asbestos brake pads, clutch facings, and gaskets. Auto mechanics and assembly line workers were regularly exposed to the dust from these parts.

Shipbuilding and Marine. Many trust companies supplied asbestos products used extensively in naval and commercial shipbuilding, including insulation, gaskets, valves, and fireproofing. Navy veterans and shipyard workers have some of the highest rates of mesothelioma diagnoses.

Refractories and Steel. NARCO, Plibrico, Christy Refractories, APG, Quigley, and J.T. Thorpe produced heat-resistant materials used in steel mills, foundries, and other high-temperature settings. Steelworkers, furnace operators, and refractory bricklayers faced significant exposure.

Not every company that used or manufactured asbestos has declared bankruptcy. Many are still in operation and can be held accountable through personal injury lawsuits. If the company responsible for your exposure is not on this list, that does not mean you have no options. It may mean you have even stronger options, because lawsuits against active companies can result in larger awards.

Some companies have changed names through mergers, acquisitions, or restructuring. A company you worked for decades ago may exist today under a different name, or its asbestos liabilities may have been assumed by a successor. SWMW Law’s database tracks corporate name changes and successor relationships.

New trusts also continue to be formed. Three have been established since 2020 alone, and additional bankruptcies may result in new trusts in the future. If you are unsure whether the companies tied to your exposure have trust funds, contact our team. We investigate every potential source, through trust funds, active litigation, or both.

Identifying qualifying trust funds is one of the most important, and most complex, parts of the compensation process. The average person who worked around asbestos encountered products from many manufacturers. You may remember one or two brand names, but there were likely others present that you never noticed or no longer recall.

SWMW Law’s in-house investigators specialize in exposure reconstruction, using an extensive asbestos litigation database that connects products to manufacturers, job sites, and time periods; detailed interviews with you and former coworkers; workplace records, union documentation, and employment histories; product identification research using historical records, catalogs, and manufacturer databases; and military service records for veterans exposed during their service.

The goal is to identify every asbestos product you were exposed to across your entire career and connect each one to the appropriate trust fund or active defendant. This thorough approach is the difference between filing with a handful of trusts and filing with every trust you are entitled to.

How many asbestos trust funds are there?

More than 60 active asbestos trust funds have been established under Section 524(g) of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. At least three new trusts have formed since 2020 (Kaiser Gypsum, Rapid-American, and Owens-Illinois), and additional trusts may be created as other companies go through bankruptcy. The directory on this page is the most comprehensive publicly available compilation.

Can I file claims with multiple trust funds?

Yes. Most people who were exposed to asbestos encountered products from multiple manufacturers over their career. Each manufacturer with an active trust fund represents a separate claim. Your attorney identifies all qualifying trusts and files claims with each one.

What if the company changed its name?

Corporate name changes, mergers, and acquisitions are common in the asbestos industry. SWMW Law tracks corporate histories and successor relationships so trusts are not overlooked because a company now operates under a different name. For example, the Motors Liquidation Corp Trust was established through the bankruptcy of the former General Motors Corporation.

What if a company that exposed me to asbestos has not gone bankrupt?

You can pursue a personal injury lawsuit against companies that are still in operation. In fact, lawsuits against active companies can often produce larger awards than trust fund claims because they involve full litigation, including discovery, depositions, and the possibility of a jury verdict. SWMW Law handles both trust fund claims and lawsuits simultaneously.

How do I know which trusts I qualify for?

This is the central question our investigators answer. Using workplace records, product databases, your employment history, and detailed interviews, we identify every asbestos product you were exposed to and connect each one to the appropriate trust fund or active defendant. Even when clients are unsure which products were present at their job sites, our team can often determine the answer.

You do not need to know which companies made the asbestos products you were exposed to. That is our job. SWMW Law’s investigators will trace your complete exposure history and identify every trust fund and active defendant that may owe your family compensation.
