Olivia N. Mitchell, Associate

Attorney Olivia N. Mitchell is an associate at SWMW Law. She joined the firm in 2022, focusing her practice on helping individuals and families affected by mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases.

A member of the Bankruptcy Department within the firm’s Asbestos Practice, Olivia works with other team members to maximize recoveries from companies that have petitioned for bankruptcy and are known to have manufactured, supplied, and distributed asbestos-containing products.

Before joining the firm, Olivia worked as a social worker, most notably for the Missouri Children’s Division in St. Louis. During law school, she worked in the Civil Litigation Clinic at Saint Louis University and as a student attorney for the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Illinois – Southern District. Upon graduation, she briefly worked for a firm specializing in family law before transitioning to the field of personal injury.

An Advocate for Others

Olivia spent several years as an advocate for others while working as a social worker, a position that allowed her to see firsthand the need for change in the legal system.

“I knew early on that I wanted to commit my life to helping others,” she said. “Working in social services allowed me to do that, but as I helped others navigate that world, I quickly realized that there were systems in place that needed to change. And I knew I could be someone to help change them.”

Leveraging her love for the “underdog” and her passion for change, Olivia is a no-nonsense advocate for the clients she represents who were harmed through no fault of their own.

“I’ve spent much of my life looking out for the underdog and wanting to stand up for those whose voices aren’t heard,” she said. “That hasn’t changed. Now, I have the tools and training to bring about the change we so desperately need, to fight for those who need me the most.”

A Trusted Partner

In working with Olivia, clients can expect a genuine, trusted partner to help secure them the justice they deserve.

“Great communication is key to any relationship, and clients who work with me can expect that throughout our time together,” she said. “I’m not interested in painting a pretty picture or telling clients what they want to hear – I’m interested in being an honest and genuine partner.”

Outside of being an attorney, Olivia is the proud mother of two young girls, both of whom she credits for motivating her every day to be the change she hopes to see in the world.
