Melanie Schmickle, Partner

With a broad spectrum of legal experience ranging from public service as a Legal Aid attorney to private practice as a litigation attorney for a prominent regional St. Louis firm,  Melanie understands how to relate to clients and knows how to tackle the legal issues they present.  Melanie serves in two important roles at SWMW Law.  She is the team leader for our growing pharmaceutical litigation practice where she fights pharmaceutical companies on behalf of our clients who were harmed by medications or medical devices. Her other role is an asbestos discovery team member where she focuses on pressing to get more complete answers, exposing the smoking gun documents, and deposing the corporate witnesses that asbestos companies fight to hide.

Before coming to SWMW Law, Melanie worked at Doorways Interfaith Housing – as an Advocacy and Development Associate, which provides housing services for those living with HIV/AIDS. She was integral to helping secure funding for the organization so that families wouldn’t be left out in the cold with nowhere to live.  Melanie’s prior legal practice included civil litigation where she learned the strategies defendants like to use to avoid their liability.  Before that, she worked closely with underprivileged families for Legal Aid of Western Missouri making sure that their legal needs were met.  Melanie is excited to be a part of the SWMW Law team where she gets to continue focusing on helping those who need help the most.

Melanie received her undergraduate degree from Truman State University and her law degree from University of Missouri – Columbia.

Melanie is a native of the St. Louis area. She has been involved with the Town and Country Symphony Orchestra as a violist and enjoys time with her family, traveling, and being outdoors.
